I have had my sm045 for several years and now I cannot read the display numbers. Part of the digits are missing and you cannot tell if it is a 2 or 3 any more. Is anyone else having these problems? Any suggested fixes short of replacing the controller assembly for almost $300 dollars?
For years I've done my ribs at 275 deg. with a sptitz of AJ every 1/2 hr or so. Now I'm thinking about trying 225 deg. Has anyone compared ribs at those two temps and if so what are the differences other than time to finish? TNX

Now i need some things for it and i fear it may be too late to get any! i would like to do an overhaul of , element, controls and, and sensors. i know its a long shot but i thought i would throw it out there. Help! anyone?
This is my second electric smoker, first was a Masterbuilt, real junk, should have been called Medicorebuilt. I have liked the Cookshack, had several years, used it probably ten times, also have a Pit Barrel, gets more use, but when weather is bad the Cookshack is under cover. Last two times I have tried to use it, set it at 225°, but it just keeps climbing. Any thoughts, Not buying a whole control unit at that ridiculous price. Not a fan of 'everything is disposable', I am sure this can be...
At a controller temp of 225 how much white smoke should be produced by the PG 1000. It was filling my backyard and my neighbors with smoke. I had to move it away from the house. I played with the LHT/HHT settings to see if I could get it cleaner but nothing seemed to change the amount or color of the smoke. The fire box itself did not contain a fire or visible flames at 225 and it seemed to be just smoldering. Is this Normal? At low cooking temps, is this unit supposed to have a fire burning...
I’m thinking about getting a Cookshack FEC 100. I’m curious is it worth the money and do they still use it in competitions.

Hi all. New member/first post. Been catering barbecue since 2012 with an ugly drum and a stick burner. We are now doing a ghost kitchen and launched a food truck. Looking to streamline the labor side of our operation at the smoker. I found an SM250 from 2005, and they are asking 2k. Any advice or opinions are much appreciated. Thanks!!
